Chat Checkout to fight loneliness
At the age of convenience and security, where everything goes faster and automated, Dutch retailer Jumbo takes a practical approach to fight loneliness by turning 200 checkout counters into a "Kletsskassa" or chat checkout.
The family-owned supermarket chain priorities this for its stores in neighbourhoods with high levels of loneliness, particularly among older adults. Cashiers are trained to recognise signs of loneliness, and the stores are also encouraged to launch other local initiatives to combat isolation.
